Grow Organic Baby has announced the availability of Sprout Organic, an infant formula developed for families seeking a vegan, plant-based feeding option during a baby's first year. The formula combines organic rice and pea proteins with a range of other ingredients, including coconut oil and algae-sourced DHA.

Plant-based feeding is a consideration for some families for ethical, dietary or other personal reasons, notes the team at Grow Organic Baby. Research published in Nutrients examining parental decisions about excluding animal foods from children's diets found that health considerations and ethical motivations were among the most frequently cited reasons. Infant feeding choices, however, require particular care because babies have specific nutritional needs during their first year.
The newly announced Sprout Organic is formulated without milk, dairy, lactose, soy or palm oil - avoiding most allergens. Its protein sources are organic rice and pea proteins, while DHA is derived from algae rather than fish oil. The formula is intended for infants aged 0-12 months, providing an alternative for families exploring vegan feeding options that avoid reliance on soy products.
"Sprout Organic is a healthier choice compared to soy-based formulas because it avoids common allergens and synthetic additives while providing complete plant-based nutrition," says a company spokesperson. "Unlike soy formulas, which rely on soy protein isolate, Sprout uses pea and rice proteins, ensuring a gentler, more digestible alternative for infants and a a full amino-acid profile."
Parents concerned about milk allergy or other feeding issues should consult a qualified healthcare professional before changing an infant's formula.
