Aalberts Installs New Xylan 5230 Coating Line Amid Corrosion Protection Demand

Aalberts Surface Technologies has commissioned a new coating line at its Cleveland, TN facility, expanding corrosion-resistant coating capacity for automotive fasteners and components. The system was engineered and installed by SIDASA, a specialist in custom heavy-duty industrial turnkey installations and automated manufacturing solutions, and is capable of applying Xylan 5230 along with other coatings.

The move comes at a time when demand for corrosion protection in the automotive sector remains strong. According to Grand View Research, the global automotive coatings market was valued at USD 23.2 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach USD 33.4 billion by 2030. The new coating line positions Aalberts Surface Technologies to address this demand, supplying automotive manufacturers and suppliers with corrosion protection for fasteners and components, including through its Xylan 5230 coating.

"Corrosion from road salt, acid rain, and other environmental exposure remains one of the most persistent challenges automotive component manufacturers face," says an Aalberts Surface Technologies representative. "Xylan 5230 is a proven way to address that effectively."

Xylan 5230 is a chrome-free, RoHS-compliant fluoropolymer coating applied through a dip-spin process. It provides controlled torque tension along with resistance to automotive fuels, fluids, and lubricants, helping extend component service life under demanding road and operating conditions while reducing the need for frequent part replacement.

SIDASA's scope of work for the installation drew on its expertise in automated electroplating and planetary dip-spin coating systems, robotic lines equipped with 3D vision and AI, and integrated liquid paint systems for metal and plastic parts — capabilities the company applies across the automotive and aerospace industries. The Aalberts Surface Technologies spokesperson highlights that the company offers corrosion-resistant coating processes calibrated to different part sizes and production volumes. Dip-spin processing, suited to high-volume runs of small fasteners and stamped components, supports Xylan 5230 as well as the facility's broader capabilities, including Zinc Flake Coating, polymer coatings, and additional Xylan fluoropolymer coatings targeting corrosion resistance across automotive and industrial applications.
