LOS ANGELES, CA — July 2026 — Award-winning contemporary abstract artist Clara Berta will be prominently featured in From Delicate to Dynamic: Diverse Directions in Abstraction, a new group exhibition opening Saturday, August 1, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Blue & The Muse Gallery in the Los Angeles Arts District.
Curated by Dale Youngman, the exhibition brings together 15 artists whose work demonstrates the extraordinary range of contemporary abstraction. Moving from quiet, contemplative compositions to energetic works driven by color, texture, rhythm, and contrast, the exhibition presents abstract art not as a single movement or recognizable style, but as an expansive visual language capable of communicating many different ideas and emotional experiences.
Youngman has twenty years of art-world experience, curating nearly 100 professional exhibitions at multiple galleries, independent projects, and charity events. She began a home-based business after Covid as an independent art marketing and communications consultant, handling contract negotiations, business development, marketing, PR, submissions, website content, and social media strategies for various artists, galleries, and non-profits. She has been a judge or juror for the Beverly Hills Art Show nine times and has juried shows for the Palos Verdes Art Center, LA Printmaking Society, San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center, and Women Painters West. Dale has twice been the recipient of "Certificates of Recognition" from the City of LA. (2008, 2015)
Among the exhibition’s defining voices is Clara Berta, a Laguna Beach-based contemporary artist recognized for emotionally expressive paintings that explore transformation, healing, memory, resilience, and the often-unspoken dimensions of human experience. Berta creates abstract paintings distinguished by luminous color, fluid movement, atmospheric depth, and surfaces developed through an intuitive process of layering and discovery. Rather than beginning with a fixed image or predetermined conclusion, she allows each composition to evolve through an ongoing exchange between intention and spontaneity. Her work frequently balances delicacy and intensity, making it particularly aligned with the exhibition’s central theme. Transparent washes, open areas, subtle passages of color, and moments of visual stillness may coexist with concentrated pigments, sweeping gestures, unexpected marks, and dynamic movement.
From Personal Experience to Abstract Expression
Berta’s artistic practice is rooted in a belief that painting can become a vehicle for emotional exploration and personal transformation. Her work is informed by her Hungarian heritage, her individual experiences, and her continued interest in the relationship between creativity and healing.
Her process often involves building successive layers of paint and allowing earlier marks to remain visible beneath later decisions. These traces give the finished paintings a sense of accumulated history, suggesting that the past is not erased but incorporated into what comes next. Some works emerge through gentle transitions and expansive fields of color. Others develop through more forceful gestures, pronounced contrasts, and energetic passages. In both approaches, Berta searches for the moment when the painting begins to communicate independently of its creator.
An Artistic Story Recognized on Film
Berta’s ability to communicate through multiple creative mediums received additional recognition when her short documentary, An Artist’s Journey, earned the Best Short Documentary award at the Silicon Beach Film Festival. The documentary recognition brought Berta’s story beyond the traditional gallery environment and highlighted an important dimension of her work: the artist’s journey itself is inseparable from the paintings she produces.
From Delicate to Dynamic expands that conversation by placing Berta’s work within a diverse collection of contemporary abstract practices. The exhibition begins with the premise that “abstract” does not describe one uniform visual style. Instead, abstraction operates as a language with many dialects. One artist may communicate through geometric structure and repetition, while another relies on gesture, atmosphere, texture, improvisation, or color.
Some abstract works reward slow, sustained observation. Others produce an immediate response through scale, movement, or visual contrast. Some generate a feeling of meditative calm, while others deliberately introduce tension, disruption, or controlled chaos. By presenting these approaches together, curator Dale Youngman invites visitors to consider both the differences and unexpected connections among the participating artists.
A Diverse Gathering of Contemporary Artists
In addition to Clara Berta, the exhibition features work by Bill Sherwood, Cody Bayne, Gil Tepper, J.W. Pippen, Lina Kogan, Luis Sanchez, Magal Nagar, Matteo, Miguel Osuna, Nicole Landau, Theodore Svenningsen, Valerie Mitchell, and Varoujan Hovakimyan. Together, the artists represent varied directions within contemporary abstraction, creating a gallery experience in which calm and movement, simplicity and complexity, delicacy and force can share the same walls.
The exhibition also provides visitors with an opportunity to compare how individual artists approach composition, color, balance, surface, gesture, and emotional tone. Rather than establishing one definition of abstract art, From Delicate to Dynamic emphasizes the freedom and diversity that continue to make abstraction relevant to artists, collectors, and contemporary audiences.
For Berta, participating in a multifaceted group exhibition allows her paintings to enter into a visual conversation with work created from markedly different perspectives. “One of the valuable things about a group exhibition is that each artist’s work changes the way you experience the work around it,” she says. “A quiet painting can make the energy in another composition feel more intense. A highly structured piece can draw attention to the freedom and spontaneity in a neighboring work. Those relationships create discoveries that would not happen in isolation.”
The evening will offer collectors, members of the arts community, local residents, and visitors an opportunity to experience the exhibition, meet participating artists, and explore the diverse visual languages represented throughout the gallery.
