Prostaid Calgary has announced that its Wives and Caregivers meetings continue this July, giving caregivers an informal space to connect, share experiences, and access support resources.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men in Canada, with the Canadian Cancer Society estimating that about 1 in 9 men will develop it during their lifetime. Spouses and family members supporting someone through a prostate cancer diagnosis often carry this responsibility with little structured guidance. Prostaid Calgary has announced its continued caregiver-focused meetings to address this gap, giving families a consistent setting to process the emotional and practical demands of supporting a loved one.
Prostaid Calgary's Wives and Caregivers group meets each month informally, with sessions unstructured by design to allow participants to raise concerns specific to their own circumstances. Attendees can speak openly about the strain of caregiving, exchange coping strategies, and hear how others have navigated similar stages of a partner's diagnosis or treatment.
This caregiver-focused meeting operates alongside two other monthly offerings from Prostaid Calgary. A general meeting, open to the public at no charge, features a healthcare professional and covers topics relevant to prostate cancer patients and families. A separate group, aimed at those managing advanced or hormone-refractory disease, focuses on treatment updates, clinical trial access, and peer networking. All three groups are held monthly, with the general session typically falling on the third Wednesday.
For those unable to attend in person, past sessions are archived in video format, allowing caregivers to revisit discussions or catch up on topics they missed. Prostaid Calgary also circulates a monthly newsletter with meeting reminders and prostate cancer news to subscribers, giving caregivers an additional way to stay connected between sessions.
Formed in 1993, Prostaid Calgary is a nonprofit prostate cancer support organization marking over 30 years of service to Calgary and the surrounding areas. The organization operates under three core aims: providing peer-to-peer mutual support for men and their families affected by prostate cancer, increasing public awareness of the disease, and advocating for consistent, high-quality prostate cancer care across the province.
