While federal disability programs such as Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income provide a consistent financial foundation across the country, the guide explains that many of the services people depend on each day are administered at the state level. Access to in-home caregiving, accessible transportation, affordable housing, employment support, and other essential resources can vary considerably from one state to another, creating meaningful differences in how disabled adults navigate daily life.
"Many people assume federal disability benefits tell the whole story," a Diamonds of Disability representative said. "In reality, where you live can have just as much impact on your daily life as the benefits you receive."
