Freedom Valley Farm now offers customers across 24 states the opportunity to order pasture-raised chicken directly from its Maryland farm. Raised outdoors on fresh grass and moved to a new pasture every day, the chickens forage naturally alongside a locally milled soy-free feed as part of the farm's regenerative approach to livestock production.

This focus on how food is raised reflects a broader shift in consumer expectations around transparency and sourcing. For many shoppers, choosing chicken today is no longer only about the cut or the price but also about understanding the journey behind the product before it reaches the table. According to the 2025 International Food Information Council Food & Health Survey, 59% of Americans say it's important to know where their food comes from, up from 51% in 2017. Separate research from the Food Industry Association found that 64% of shoppers are willing to switch brands in favor of products offering more transparent information about what they buy.
"Pasture-raised should describe how birds actually live," said Ryan Hamby, owner of Freedom Valley Farm. "For us, that means moving them onto fresh grass every day, giving them room to forage naturally, and raising them without antibiotics, vaccines, added hormones, GMOs, or soy."
The farm says those daily management practices work together as a complete production system. Chickens live outdoors in mobile shelters that are moved to fresh pasture every day, giving them access to grasses, insects, and natural forage. Their diet is complemented with locally milled non-GMO feed, while processing takes place at a small USDA-inspected facility.
Freedom Valley Farm offers whole chickens alongside everyday cuts, including breasts, tenders, wings, backs, and feet, with bulk purchasing options for customers filling their freezers. Orders can be collected from the farm or shipped frozen by UPS throughout its 24-state delivery area: https://freedomvalleyfarmmd.com/pasture-raised-chicken/
"We want customers to know exactly where their food comes from and how it was raised," Hamby added. "Building that direct connection between the farm and the families we serve is just as important to us as producing quality food."
