Puerto Viejo Beachfront Caribbean Restaurant: Fine Dining Seafood Menu Updated

GigiO, the fine dining oceanfront restaurant in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, Costa Rica, has introduced an updated menu centered on tropical seafood dishes and Caribbean culinary traditions. The refreshed menu gives travelers more ways to experience the region’s flavors, complemented by views of the Caribbean Sea.

The update comes as destination dining plays a growing role in travel planning. Research published by the Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries found that 32.4% of surveyed travelers across six major European source markets identified food and drink activities as a key reason for travel, underscoring demand for culinary experiences tied to place and culture.

According to GigiO Restaurant, the updated menu combines seafood with local ingredients, including coconut, citrus, mango, passionfruit, fresh herbs, and regional produce. The restaurant’s menus change with the seasons and the day’s catch, allowing the kitchen to adapt dishes to available ingredients while preserving the culinary spirit of Costa Rica’s southern Caribbean coast.

“We want every meal to feel rooted in where it is being enjoyed,” says a GigiO Restaurant representative. “Puerto Viejo has a distinct character, and the dining experience should reflect that.”

The restaurant organizes its dining selection across six menus covering breakfast and brunch, lunch and dinner, pizza, drinks, wines, and Costa Rican coffee. In addition to seafood, the menu features vegetarian dishes and tropical fruit desserts, while ingredients such as plantains, yucca, coconut, and seasonal produce reflect the wider food traditions of Limón Province.

Beyond the menu itself, GigiO’s terrace extends onto the sand, pairing the dining setting with open views across the Caribbean Sea. The venue also hosts live Caribbean music, jazz performances, and sunset DJ sets throughout the week, with lineups changing according to the season and visiting artists. GigiO also offers customizable menus and event support for private gatherings of different sizes.

In addition, the property houses Casa de la Poesia, an in-house museum dedicated to Caribbean culture, showcasing local art and historic exhibitions. An upstairs art gallery adds another cultural dimension to the venue and remains open during restaurant hours.

The restaurant is open daily except Wednesday, with extended evening hours on Friday and Saturday.
