Against this backdrop of continued storm exposure, Impact Windows Center has announced its sliding glass doors, pairing impact-rated glazing with a built-in screen so homeowners don't have to choose between storm protection and everyday ventilation.
According to a company spokesperson, the doors are constructed with reinforced aluminum framing designed to hold up against wind-borne debris and sustained hurricane-force winds. The 2-panel sliding design is available in configurations suited to patios, lanais, and rear entryways, common areas of vulnerability during storm events.
The integrated screen allows the doors to function as a standard ventilated opening during calm weather, sliding independently of the impact-rated glass panel. This addresses a common complaint with hurricane-rated doors, which are sometimes installed without screening options, forcing homeowners to rely solely on air conditioning for airflow.
Beyond storm resistance, the doors can be configured with additional energy-efficiency features, including low-E coatings, glass tints, and argon gas fill between panes. The company representative notes that these additions are aimed at improving insulation performance and can contribute toward ENERGY STAR® qualification, which may help offset the upfront cost of impact-rated glazing over time.
Doors are available in left-hand and right-hand configurations, determined by the swing or slide direction when viewed from outside the home, allowing for compatibility with a range of floor plans and entryway layouts.
