Yuba City Teen Day Program For Adolescent Mental Health Support Announced

Per the recent announcement, California Teen Center provides full-day therapeutic support for teenagers aged 12 to 17 experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, school refusal, and other mental health challenges who require more intensive care without inpatient hospitalization.

The program was developed as teen mental health challenges can affect every aspect of an adolescent's daily life, from emotional well-being to academic performance and family relationships. According to the CDC, one in five children has a diagnosable mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder, while the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry estimates that nearly half of young people who need mental health treatment do not receive it. As a result, many parents find themselves searching for structured treatment that provides more support while allowing their teenager to remain at home.

California Teen Center explains that its Teen Day program bridges the gap between traditional outpatient therapy and inpatient treatment. Adolescents attend the center five days a week, typically from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., before returning home each evening, providing intensive therapeutic support while maintaining family involvement and familiar daily routines.

Each treatment day combines individual therapy, process groups, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills training, psychoeducation, expressive therapies, family therapy, psychiatric medication management, and academic support coordination. The program is intended for adolescents stepping down from psychiatric hospitalization, those requiring more support than an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides, or teenagers whose depression, anxiety, or school refusal has significantly affected daily functioning.

"Our teen day program gives adolescents the opportunity to receive consistent, structured care during the day while returning home to their families each evening," a California Teen Center representative said. "That balance allows many families to stay actively involved in treatment while their teenager receives the level of support they need."
