California Teen Center, a DHCS-licensed and Joint Commission-accredited adolescent behavioral health provider, has announced the expansion of its Teen Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Yuba City. The program serves adolescents aged 12-17 in Yuba City and the broader Northern California region, with Virtual IOP options extending access to eligible families statewide — allowing teens to receive structured mental health care while remaining connected to their home, school, and daily routines.

Self-harm among adolescents has emerged as one of the most prevalent behavioral health concerns among young people. Research published in peer-reviewed literature consistently estimates that roughly 17% of adolescents engage in non-suicidal self-injury at least once before adulthood, underscoring the need for early assessment and structured treatment for teens experiencing significant emotional distress.
In response to these growing mental health needs, California Teen Center provides a continuum of evidence-based behavioral health services for adolescents who require more support than traditional weekly therapy while remaining connected to their families, schools, and communities. Its family-centered approach actively involves parents and caregivers throughout the treatment process, helping reinforce healthy coping strategies and communication beyond therapy sessions.
"Family involvement is an important part of adolescent mental health treatment," a California Teen Center representative said. "Our goal is to provide structured care that supports both teens and their caregivers throughout the recovery process."
According to the California Teen Center, its Teen IOP is scheduled after school hours, allowing adolescents to continue their education while receiving structured mental health treatment. Depending on each teen's clinical needs, treatment may include individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, psychiatric oversight, academic coordination, and personalized treatment planning. The center also offers a Teen Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP/Day Program), outpatient therapy, step-down care following higher levels of treatment, and Virtual IOP for eligible families throughout California.
The organization also notes that it works with major insurance providers, including Anthem, Blue Shield of California, Carelon, and Aetna, and offers insurance verification assistance to help families understand their available coverage before starting treatment.
